STRATEGIES FOR DRESSING FASHIONABLY ON A BUDGET

With the changing of every season comes a whole new wave of trends. Here’s how I

shop smart and freshen up my wardrobe without breaking the bank.

Living on a budget can feel limiting, but I love to indulge myself without going broke.

In fact, a spending limit often makes shopping more of an adventure! I use a few

smart strategies for dressing fashionably on a budget to make my summer shopping

trips fun, exciting, and unforgettable.

Thrift Smart

Buying clothes and accessories secondhand is a tried-and-true way to find great

pieces for low prices. It can feel like an archeological dig sometimes, but that’s half

the fun! Occasionally, people will donate high-end items because they need the

space. I take the time to peruse the racks with a sharp eye. Some of my favorite

finds include a Vera Wang cocktail dress and a crisp Brooks Brothers shirt. I’ve

gotten to know my local thrift stores and consignment shops, so I know what sorts of

items they generally carry.

Focus On Accessories

Sometimes, it’s the little things that tie an outfit together. Accessories are the perfect

way to update my classic pieces without buying an armful of new clothing. I’ve gotten

a few fun ideas for accessorizing already and converted them into a ready-to-go

shopping list. A new pair of sunglasses or a stack of bracelets fit easily into my

budget and breathe new life into my existing wardrobe.

Pay in Cash

I challenge myself to stick to my budget by eliminating the temptation to overspend.

It’s hard, but I leave my credit and debit cards at home, and I only bring cash along

on shopping trips. I can’t spend too much if I run out of money! This strategy

encourages me to look through clearance racks and ask myself, “Do I really need

this?” That way, I always feel confident coming home with purchases I know I’ll use.

Arrange a Swap

All my friends are shopping on a budget, too. Last month, we realized that all of us

have piles of clothes in our closets that we haven’t worn in years! We agreed to set

up a clothing swap, and at the end of the day, we all got to freshen up our wardrobes

for the tantalizing price of $0.00. Fashion doesn’t put a squeeze on my wallet. It doesn’t have to. Shopping on a budget has proven a creative and extra-fun way to spice up my wardrobe. Every time

I shop for clothes, I keep these strategies for dressing fashionably on a budget in

mind—and I’m becoming an expert at trendy and affordable styling!
