Hi loves! I hope you all had the best VDay. Johnny and I celebrated our one and only Valentines Day as fiances' with a staycation at the beautiful Hotel Figueroa in Downtown Los Angeles. He took his NCLEX Thursday, so I knew he needed to get out of town and take his mind off of things. He found out early Saturday morning that HE PASSED!!! He is officially a registered nurse, and am so excited for him to officially start his dream career.
Anywhoooo, back to the Hotel Figueroa. I am always in DTLA for work, and am so bummed that I just now stumbled across this gem. First off, I absolutely LOVED that the side of the hotel is painted with a floral mural. What a dream. As we checked in, the concierge gave us a little background on the Fig. I find it so interesting that when it opened in 1926, it was for women only. Back then, women were not able to check into hotels (or do much else) on their own so they wanted to have a little sanctuary getaway just to themselves. (*hint hint* this place is PERF for a Galentines getaway!) I also find it interesting that their pool was designed in the shape of a coffin... WTF? I don't know the backstory in this, but I'm sure it was a feminist gesture. LOL
I HAVE to chat with you about the decor, because you know there's nothing that excites me more than interior design. I've never seen an interior style quite like Hotel Figueroa. It's screams art-deco, but also has a moody, tailored, Moroccan and high-end feel. One of my favorite design details was the way the elevator doors were uniquely painted on each floor. The Fig features mostly dark toned furniture with pops of deep yellow and green. Our room 718 had beautiful wood + cane closet doors and stunning gold hardware throughout the space. The bathroom was something out of my dreams. The designer brought classic white subway tile half way up the wall, then covered the upper portion in a beautiful blue palm leaf wallpaper. This timeless color palate gave the space a chic and upscale feel. I got some of the best sleep here; the bed is insanely comfortable and the in-room tablet makes it so quick + easy to order extra pillows and blankets at the touch of a button. The room was stocked with an espresso machine and custom made water bottles the replicated the mural painted on the outside of the hotel. (scroll to check this out). Overall, this hotel is very well curated and I was impressed! Overall, I would give Hotel Figueroa a 10/10. Would recommend.
